The USO Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore (USO-Metro) held its annual gala event Tuesday with the theme "Force Behind the Forces."

During the event, USO-Metro raised a record $1 million thanks to the on-the-spot donation from the Boeing Co., according to a press release.

Boeing's Executive Vice President Leanne Caret, who kicked off the event speaking on her own experiences with the USO said, "A friend of mine once told me your proximity to the fight doesn't define your contribution to the fight."

USO-Metro CEO and President Elaine Rogers later surprised the audience with Caret’s $150K donation that helped exceed the $1 million mark for the gala.

"This has never happened at our gala before," Rodgers said. "We are so thankful for Boeing’s generous contribution to USO-Metro and to the military members and their families who serve our great nation."

"Boeing's additional contribution tonight was a complete and wonderful surprise! It took us to a record-breaking $1 million raised from this dinner and just left me speechless and beyond happy, especially considering that 90 percent of the net funds raised this evening will go directly to the programs and services we provide for our nation’s military members and their families," said Rogers. "Without Boeing and all of our other incredible corporate sponsors here tonight, this major milestone for USO-Metro could not have happened and we are deeply grateful to each and every one of them for their support and dedication to our mission."
