SAN DIEGO — The executive officer of the amphibious transport dock Green Bay, currently on deployment and operating in the Arabian Sea, was fired Wednesday after being accused of misconduct, the Navy said.

Cmdr. Ralph Jones was relieved as the ship's second-in-command "after an investigation substantiated allegations of personal misconduct," said Cmdr. Jason Salata, a Naval Surface Forces spokesman.

Capt. Curtis Shaub, commodore of Amphibious Squadron 1 aboard the amphibious assault ship Boxer, made the decision to fire Jones after nonjudicial punishment proceedings, Salata said.

Salata said he did not know what prompted the investigation.

Jones is being reassigned to temporary duties in San Diego with Expeditionary Strike Group 3, Salata said.

San Diego-based Green Bay, on its first deployment, is part of the three-ship Boxer Amphibious Ready Group, which includes the dock landing ship Comstock and the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, out of Camp Pendleton.

About 4,000 sailors and Marines deployed from San Diego in February for a seven-month deployment to the 5th Fleet and 7th Fleet regions, and most recently the Boxer ARG been conducting maritime security and theater security cooperation operations in 5th Fleet.
