BELGRADE, Maine — A Marine who is home on leave is expected to face charges in a fatal car accident.
Two people were killed when the car they were riding in struck a tree in Belgrade, Maine. Police say the driver, 22-year-old Travis Lawler, fled the scene after the crash but was caught a short time later. Lawler is stationed in North Carolina.
Police say 20-year-old Kristin Lawler died instantly in the crash at about 11 p.m. Saturday. Another passenger, 20-year-old Jackson Bolduc, died Sunday night from his injuries.
A third passenger suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized.
The crash remains under investigation, but police say high speed and alcohol are factors.
