Sex scandal: 1 faces trial, 12th convicted

Yet another military training instructor is headed to court-martial as part of the Air Force's ongoing prosecutions of sexual misconduct.

Staff Sgt. William F. Romero will face a special court-martial Tuesday for allegedly having unprofessional relationships with four technical training students and committing adultery, according to a news release from the 502nd Air Base Wing at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas.

Romero, of the 320th Training Squadron, is the 13th MTI to be court-martialed since last year over allegations of misconduct. Twelve MTIs have been convicted of some or all of the charges against them.

Most recently, Tech. Sgt. Jonathan M. Croskey was sentenced March 29 to 30 days' confinement and reduction in rank to senior airman, according to the 502nd Air Base Wing.

Croskey had been accused of having an unprofessional relationship with a technical training student, committing adultery with the student and another airman, and obstructing justice by telling the student to deny she had a relationship with him, according to the charge sheet for his case.

Of the MTIs who have been convicted, three received bad-conduct discharges, two others received dishonorable discharges and the rest were allowed to remain in the Air Force as part of their sentences.

One case was dismissed after a military judge ruled the evidence against the MTI was obtained without a search warrant. That case is being appealed.
