NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Members of the Coast Guard based in western New York are credited with helping an employee of the Maid of the Mist boat tours who had apparently suffered a heart attack.
Officials with the Cleveland-based Ninth Coast Guard District said inspectors from the Coast Guard’s Buffalo sector and an inspector from Transport Canada were conducting routine annual inspections Wednesday afternoon on tour boats docked at a pier on the Canadian side of the Niagara River in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Officials say one of the Maid of the Mist workers collapsed on a pier and fell on his face. The inspectors, including four Coast Guard officers, started CPR and bandaged the man’s wounds until emergency medical services arrived. He was taken to a hospital, where he’s said to be stable.
