CHEYENNE, WYO. — A Florida man who claims that sheriff’s deputies in western Wyoming violated his rights when they detained him for carrying a handgun has appealed a federal judge’s dismissal of his lawsuit.
Robert Pierson of Pensacola, Fla., this week filed a brief with the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver. He’s challenging U.S. District Judge Scott Skavdahl’s dismissal of his lawsuit earlier this year.
Pierson had sued the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and two deputies. He claims the deputies handcuffed him and held him for 45 minutes after they pulled him over in August 2011 as he was riding on his Harley-Davidson near the town of Alpine while wearing a pistol on his belt.
Pierson is a helicopter pilot with the U.S. Marine Corps.
