Funeral set for Stewart spc. killed by intruder

CLIFTON, N.J. — An Iraq war veteran who police say was killed in a shootout with an intruder in Georgia will be laid to rest in New Jersey.

Army Spc. Jeremias Ortiz will be buried with full military honors Wednesday at East Ridgelawn Cemetery in Clifton .

Police say the 26-year-old was shot twice June 1 as he exchanged gunfire with the intruder in the apartment he shared with his wife near Fort Stewart in Hinesville, Ga.

The Record newspaper reports that 21-year-old Kyle Perry was wounded and is charged with murder, aggravated assault, burglary and other charges.
