MOORE, OKLA. — Leaders in Moore are working to rebuild and repair facilities at the Veterans Memorial Park that were destroyed in last month’s EF5 tornado.

The park was home to four wooden sculptures depicting soldiers from World War II and conflicts in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq. Last month’s tornado ripped two of the sculptures from their mountings and broke off three of the four statues’ rifles.

The Norman Transcript reports that the statues have been sent to chainsaw artist Clayton Coss for repairs.

Assistant City Manager Stan Drake said the city needs to remove debris from the park, then clear and repair the walking trail. After that, the city will build a new playground, fencing, bathrooms and a pavilion.
