PETERSBURG, VA. — A wounded Army veteran and his family are getting a newly donated home in Petersburg.
Officials are holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday at the home of Jarred Lucas.
Lucas was serving overseas when he was injured by an explosive device. The explosion resulted in a traumatic brain injury that has caused him to lose his sight and have daily seizures.
He and his wife, Marie, have a 1-year-old son and live in a mobile home with his parents.
The new home was made possible through a collaborative effort by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, the Virginia Department of Veteran Services, Homes for Hearts Inc., the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program and Pathways.
