Veterans Day deals abound

Military Times has received a steady stream of notices from retailers around the nation offering special deals for service members and veterans in honor of Veterans Day.

The list is heavy on food; any veteran who can’t find a free or discounted breakfast, lunch or dinner probably isn’t looking hard enough.

Below is a roundup of the offers we’ve received, all of which require proof of service. Unless otherwise noted, the offers are for the service member or veteran only.


Applebee’s is offering a free meal on Monday at all its locations nationwide.

Shoney’s is offering a free All-American Burger on Monday at its 170 restaurants in 17 states.

Champps Americana is offering a free burger at its more than 50 locations, most on the East Coast and in the Midwest.

Mission BBQ is teaming with Charm City Cakes for a special promotion at its four locations in the Baltimore metro area. Each location will have a World War II Memorial replica cake measuring about 3 feet wide and serving 300 to 400 slices, along with complimentary turkey, pork and brisket sandwiches.

Golden Corral is offering a free dinner buffet from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday at its locations nationwide.

Max & Erma’s is offering a free “Best Cheeseburger in America” combo meal on Monday at its 73 locations in 10 states.

Texas Roadhouse is offering a free lunch on Monday, with a choice of 10 entrees, including a 6-ounce sirloin steak, at its more than 400 locations in 48 states.

Olive Garden is offering a free entree from a special menu for veterans and a 10 percent discount for family members dining with a veteran on Monday. Active-duty members and their families also can get a 10 percent discount on other days through the end of November.

eSquared Hospitality is offering dinner discounts of 50 percent for parties of one or two and 25 percent for parties of three or more off the total check at its 16 restaurants across the country.

Denny’s is offering free all-you-can-eat pancakes on Monday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at all locations nationwide. Some locations also offer a 10 percent military discount year-round.

McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants are offering a complimentary lunch or dinner entree on Sunday.

Pinnacle Entertainment is offering a complimentary meal at its four Louisiana properties on Monday: breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon or lunch from noon to 3 p.m. at L’Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles; breakfast, lunch or dinner from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. at L’Auberge Casino & Hotel in Baton Rouge; lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Boomtown Casino New Orleans; and breakfast, lunch or dinner from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Boomtown Bossier Hotel & Casino.


The Professional Association of Innkeepers International is offering active-duty troops and veterans a free overnight stay on and around Veteran’s Day at more than 800 inns in the U.S. and Canada as part of its annual “B&B for Vets” event. Some innkeepers have teamed up with local restaurants and businesses to offer everything from gifts to receptions and meals in an effort to thank veterans for their service.

Monticello, President Thomas Jefferson’s home in Virginia, is offering free admission from Saturday, Nov. 9 through Monday, Nov. 11 for entry to the grounds and the regular daily house tour.

Red Roof is offering 15 percent off rooms at more than 350 properties nationwide during the entire month of November. Go to and use code 608455 to book under this offer.

The New Yorker Hotel in downtown Manhattan is offering discounts of 20 percent on room rates, as well as other perks, through Dec. 29.

Entertainment & Recreation

Knott’s Berry Farm, a 160-acre amusement park in Buena Park, Calif., is offering free admission to current and former veterans and one guest through Jan. 5 as part of its “Military Tribute Days” promotion. Veterans may purchase additional tickets atr discounted rates during the promotion.

The U.S. Forest Service is waiving fees at most of its day-use recreational sites nationwide from Nov. 9-11.

The National Park Service is offering free entrance to all 401 national parks for all visitors, not just veterans, from Saturday through Monday. Some parks are hosting special events tied to Veterans Day.

The National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky., is offering free admission through November for veterand and their families.

NY Waterway, which runs ferry lines in the New York City area, will offer free commuter ferry service on Monday.


JCPenney is offering an extra 20 percent off on in-store purchases from now through Monday. The discount coupon is available for download at

Buckle, a casual apparel, footware and accessories retailer, is ofering a 10 percent discount on Monday to active-duty members, reservists, veterans and their families.

Ivar, which makes ergonomic backpacks, is offering a 25 percent discount and free shipping on Monday.

AXO, a manufacturer of motorsports footwear, clothing and protective apparel, is offering a 30 percent discount on Monday to active-duty members, reservists and veterans.

Bed, Bath & Beyond is offering 20 percent dicounts on total purchases for service members, veterand and their spouses from Saturday through Monday.
