Navy releases October courts-martial verdicts

As part of a pledge earlier this year to be “active, open and transparent” when it comes to sexual assault prevention efforts, the Navy on Friday continued its monthly release of all courts-martial verdicts, announcing October’s results for all cases, sexual assault-related and otherwise.

The 14 results reported, listed by region:

Navy Region Mid-Atlantic

■ At a general court-martial in Groton, Conn., HM1 Tristan Thomas pleaded guilty to rape of a child, possession and creation of child pornography, enticement of a child to create child pornography, indecent exposure, indecent language communicated to a child and false official statement. On Oct. 22, the military judge sentenced him to a dishonorable discharge, reduction in rank to E-1 and confinement for 70 years.

■ At a general court-martial in Groton, EN2 Jeremiah Neidert, pleaded guilty to attempting to create child pornography and possession and distribution of child pornography. On Oct. 2, the military judge sentenced him to a dishonorable discharge, reduction in rank to E-1 and confinement for 15 years.

■ At a general court-martial in Norfolk, Va., FC1 Eric M. D’Ottavio pleaded guilty to violation of a lawful general order and assault consummated by a battery. He pleaded not guilty to abusive sexual contact, but guilty to the lesser included offense of assault consummated by a battery. On Oct. 3, the military judge sentenced him to reduction in rank to E-4 and confinement for 70 days.

Navy Region Southeast

■ At a general court-martial in Mayport, Fla., GSM3 Zachary Spratling was tried for receipt of child pornography and an indecent act. On Oct. 18, a panel of members returned a verdict of guilty and sentenced him to a bad-conduct discharge and confinement for 60 days.

■ At a general court-martial in Mayport, HN Kevin Corcoran was tried for sexual assault. On Oct. 23, the military judge returned a verdict of guilty and sentenced him to a dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, reduction in rank to E-1 and confinement for two years.

■ At a general court-martial in Jacksonville, Fla., AS2 Terrence Truitt was tried for rape and sexual assault. On Oct. 30, a panel of members returned a verdict of guilty to the sexual assault charge. The panel sentenced him to a reprimand, forfeiture $1,354 pay per month for one month and 45 days restriction.

Navy Region Midwest

■ At a general court-martial in Great Lakes, Ill., LS1 Michael Jay pleaded guilty to orders violations and adultery. On Oct. 16, the military judge sentenced him to a bad conduct discharge and reduction in rank to E-1.

■ At a special court-martial in Great Lakes, GMSN Xavier Mundo pleaded guilty to indecent language. On Oct. 17, the military judge sentenced him to a bad conduct discharge, forfeiture of two-thirds of his pay per month for three months, reduction in rank to E-1 and confinement for three months.

Navy Region Northwest

■ At a special court-martial in Bremerton, Wash., ABE3 James E. Wall pleaded guilty to unauthorized absence. On Oct. 7, the military judge sentenced him to forfeiture of $100 per month for one month and 20 days confinement.

■ At a special court-martial in Bremerton, MASA Dylan R. Presnell pleaded guilty to violating a lawful order, false official statement, larceny, forgery and house breaking. On Oct. 7, the military judge sentenced him to a bad conduct discharge, reduction in rank to E-1, a $12,000 fine and confinement for one year.

■ At a special court-martial in Everett, Wash., ABEAN Tark D. Reynolds, pleaded guilty to unauthorized absence and drug use. On Oct. 28, the military judge sentenced him to forfeit $1,000 per month for 6 months, reduction in rank to E-1 and confinement for five months.

Navy Region Southwest

■ At a special court-martial in San Diego, HA Justin W. Curtis pleaded guilty to unauthorized absence. On Oct. 31, the military judge sentenced him to forfeit $500 per month for six months, a fine of $5,000, reduction in rank to E-1 and confinement for six months.

Navy Region Japan

■ At a general court-martial in Yokosuka, Japan, MM3 Aaron Jackson was tried for sexual assault and assault consummated by a battery. On Oct. 4, a panel of members convicted him of assault consummated by a battery. The panel sentenced him to forfeit $503.40 per month for two months, reduction in rank to E-1, restriction for 60 days and hard labor without confinement for 90 days.

Navy Region Europe, Africa, Southwest Asia

■ At a special court-martial in Naples, Italy, CE2 Joel Stein pleaded guilty to assault consummated by a battery. On Oct. 21, the military judge awarded no punishment.
