FORT DRUM, N.Y. — The search for more wreckage of the New York-based military drone that crashed into Lake Ontario a week ago has been put on hold because of the weather.
Maj. Sandra Stoquert (STOH’-kwert) of the Air National Guard’s Syracuse-based 174th Attack Wing says high winds and the possibility of snow or rain on Monday kept airmen from returning to the lake’s eastern end to look for wreckage from the MQ-9 Reaper.
She says similar forecasts for Tuesday will delay the next search until Wednesday.
The drone flown by the 174th took off last Tuesday from the airfield at Fort Drum and later crashed about 20 miles northeast of Oswego. Parts of the multi-million-dollar unmanned aircraft later washed up on the shore near the Oswego-Jefferson county line.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
