Senate passes bill to award Doolittle Raiders Gold Medal

The Senate passed a bill today that would award a Congressional Gold Medal to the surviving members of the Doolittle Raiders.

Bill S.381, introduced Feb. 26, would honor the 17th Bombardment Group with six gold medals. Five of the medals were meant for the five surviving members. However, only four of the World War II airmen who participated in the daring raid on Japan survive today.

The sixth medal will be given to the National Museum of the United States Air Force for display.

Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, sponsored the bill with 78 co-sponsors.

The bill now heads to the House for consideration.
