WASHINGTON — A former employee at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington has pleaded guilty to stealing equipment from her job and selling it to pawn shops.
Forty-two-year-old Joyce Dawn Ferrell of Indian Head, Md., entered the plea Thursday in federal court in Washington. Sentencing is set for April 7.
According to government evidence, Ferrell was a secretary at the lab and was authorized to make purchases with her government-wide commercial purchase card.
Prosecutors say Ferrell made unauthorized purchases with the card at the lab’s commissary, buying computer equipment, drills and thermal imagers. Authorities say she sold these items to pawn shops.
Prosecutors say Ferrell stole more than $26,000 in equipment.
