Airman gets 20 years for rape, assault of deployed airman's wife

A senior airman admitted Monday to beating and raping the wife of a deployed airman in August at her home on Grand Forks Air Force Base, N.D.

In exchange for guilty pleas, Senior Airman Jory Hodge will serve 20 years of the 34-year sentence handed down by military judge Col. Natalie Richardson, according to a base news release.

Hodge pleaded guilty to rape, sodomy, assault, burglary and communicating a threat. He will be dishonorably discharged from the Air Force after serving his sentence and must register as a sex offender, the base said.

Hodge attended a party on base the night of Aug. 9, the news release said, citing court testimony. Hodge later drove to the home of an airman he knew was deployed with a plan to rape the airman’s wife. Hodge entered the house through a back window, walked into the woman’s bedroom and punched her.

“I thought he was going to kill me from the moment I saw him standing over my bed,” the woman reportedly testified in court.

After Hodge left the woman’s home, she called for help; Hodge was taken into custody days later and was held in pre-trial confinement as he awaited trial.

The Air Force said DNA samples identified Hodge as the attacker.

The woman testified Monday the rape affected her relationship with her husband and left her questioning her faith, the base news release said. The woman’s husband testified that he had believed the base was the safest place for his family during his deployment and the attack had devastated him.
