Three San Diego-based ships are scheduled to shift homeport to Sasebo, Japan, in the next year as part of the Navyís refocus on the Pacific.

The mine countermeasures ships Pioneer and Chief will report to 7th Fleet in May, according to the Pacific Fleet, to replace Avenger and Defender.

Avenger and Defender will be heavy-lifted back to San Diego in June as they prepare for decommissioning this year.

The amphibious transport dock Green Bay will join them in February 2015, replacing the Denver. Denver, the fleetís oldest ship, is scheduled to return to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, this summer for decommissioning in September, the release said.

The amphibious assault ship Peleliu will head to Japan temporarily to fill in after Denver leaves, until Green Bay arrives, PACFLT said in the Wednesday night press release.

These homeport moves wonít require any facility changes to San Diego, Pearl Harbor or Sasebo, the release said.
