Army PT experts are at it yet again — researching potential changes to test exercises.

Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno told Army Times late last year the service is considering both a “standard PT Test” for every soldier, as well as a “functional PT test” based on your MOS.

Odierno explained:

“For example, if you’re infantry, there are certain things that we might want you to do. If you’re armor, there are certain things. [Same for] artillery. Then there are many others that will just be important to take the general PT. Why is this so important? What we learned is situps, pushups and a 2-mile run [don’t] necessarily translate into what we need people to do in war.”

While the Army continues to wrestle with these issues, Army Times is asking for your help.

Do you support MOS-specificPT standards? Which jobs should require them and what should exercises should soldiers be expected to do?

What do you think of the current PT test? How would you improve the test itself, or the scoring? Does the Army even need a PT test?
