The Marine Corps on Thursday published a new video interview with the service’s commandant, Gen. Jim Amos, in which he addresses a host of challenging questions posed by rank-and-file personnel via social media.

Marine officials launched their #AskCMC social media project in late February, soliciting queries through the Corps’ official Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts. Marines responded in force — and pulled no punches.

During the 30-minute question-and-answer session, Amos confronts Marines’ skepticism about his “Reawakening” campaign, his background as an aviator and the Obama administration’s endeavor to lift gender restrictions in ground combat jobs. He also addresses Marines’ concerns about re-enlisting during the service’s effort to shed thousands of active-duty troops, the prospects for deployments once the U.S. mission in Afghanistan ends, and the fear some have expressed about being stigmatized or punished should they seek help for post-traumatic stress or alcoholism.
