COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. — A 29-year-old man accused of shooting a Fort Carson soldier to death outside a downtown Colorado Springs nightclub has been convicted of first-degree murder.

The Gazette reports an El Paso County jury convicted Larry E. Spencer Jr. on Friday, and immediately after the verdict, he was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Prosecutors say Spencer shot Deangelo Brown during an early morning fight outside the Circa Nightclub on Aug. 18.

Brown, of Jacksonville, Fla., served in the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, and worked in food service.
