Syracuse launches vet student study

Syracuse University’s veterans research arm has launched a new study to learn more about the experiences of vets in higher education, and the group is calling for student vets across the country to participate.

The Service Member to Student Survey can be taken online and is open to all current and former service members, as well as their families.

“The survey aims to understand service members’ service and post-service experiences, challenges and recommendations as these relate to education and successful transition,” Syracuse’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families said in an email.

Researchers will attempt to identify the factors that help student vets succeed, determine what educational goals they have and highlight what challenges are faced by both student vets and their educators.

Little academic research has been done on student vets previously.

The study is being conducted through an award from Google and in partnership with Student Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Posse Foundation, a group focused on promoting college access and youth leadership.
