If you have a pet and are moving to or from an overseas location, remember that pet spaces on the Patriot Express fill up quickly in the summer months, according to a pet travel advisory issued by Air Mobility Command. If at all possible, you want to avoid having to fly your pet on commercial airlines, which is more expensive.
If you havenít done so yet, make your pet reservation: Contact your local transportation management office, installation transportation office, Navy transportation office or commercial transportation office, according to the pet travel advisory. Pet reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis.
Officials said there has been no reduction in the number of pet spaces for any Patriot Express mission.
They note that service members and families traveling on Patriot Express flights to and from northern Italy and Turkey may have to wait longer than usual for confirmation of their pet reservation due to new carrier contracts. One of the previous commercial air carriers ceased operations.
Military-contracted commercial Patriot Express flights are the primary way military passengers on official orders move to and from the U.S. and overseas.
