Military service members, their families and veterans can adopt a dog, cat or rabbit for free from May 26 through May 28, San Diego County officials told San Diego 7.

Three animal care facilities are offering free adoptions in the San Diego, California area. In order to qualify, the member must bring either a military ID, dependent ID, veteran's ID, DD 214 and driver's license or NGB Form 22.

All adoption fees will be paid for by Animals for Armed Forces, who will also cover vaccinations, spay/neuter, a microchip, licensing and a veterinarian exam within ten days of the adoption.
