Separation: Dependent schooling
If your separation or retirement date coincides with your teenager’s senior year of high school, that could mean a tough adjustment for your child, who might have to change schools.
Congress has authorized the military to let any high school senior whose parent is completing a final tour overseas the opportunity to continue in a Department of Defense Dependents School after the discharge.
Students continuing in a Defense Department school under this provision must complete their education within 12 months of the service member’s separation date.
