Scholarship deadline approaches for service members, families
Posted : Friday Jun 15, 2007 13:23:17 EDT
Lincoln Educational Services Corp. and the nonprofit Hire a Hero program have broadened the eligibility for 144 college scholarships to include service members’ dependents.
Eight full associate degree scholarships are still exclusively for military personnel serving overseas.
Lincoln and Hire a Hero chose to broaden the eligibility because of requests from service members, according to a news release. Hire a Hero had received a total of 66 applications as of June 28.
The deadline is Aug. 17 to apply for one of eight full associate degree scholarships for military personnel serving overseas. The scholarships pay 100 percent of tuition to Lincoln’s criminal justice or allied health programs. Courses will be administered online.
The application deadline also applies to 54 scholarships of “up to $10,000” for National Guard members, honorably discharged veterans, spouses — and now dependents — and 60 scholarships worth $2,000 for service members, honorably discharged veterans, spouses and dependents.
The scholarships for $2,000 and “up to $10,000” are available in subject areas of automotive technology, health sciences, skilled trades, business, information technology, criminal justice and hospitality services. Courses may be completed online or in person at one of Lincoln’s 37 campuses in 17 states.
The partial scholarships are available to any of Lincoln’s schools, including Lincoln Technical Institute and its Center for Culinary Arts, Lincoln College of Technology, Lincoln College Online, Nashville Auto-Diesel College, Southwestern College, Euphoria Institute of Beauty Arts & Sciences and Florida Culinary Institute, according to Lincoln officials.
