When using our search feature you will see five main check boxes listed under the search box.
Using too many keywords can cause the search to omit results that you may be looking for. If you find that 0 results are being returned, try using a fewer amount keywords.
If you are finding that too many results are being returned, try adding in the name of the medal, conflict or branch associated with the recipient you are looking for. This will help to filter out unwanted results. Currently the keywords recognized by our search are limited to the branches of the United States military, most conflicts and all of the available medals listed on our Awards page. The easiest way to determine which of keywords these to use is to refer to the menus above (Awards, Branches and Conflicts). These menus are listed in white text under the Hall of Valor logo.
The results page lists awards iare displayed in descending order based on the date of the action for which the award was given. This puts the awards in chronological order.
Words like division should NOT be abbreviated. In doing so, you may greatly increase the number of results returned. However, abbreviation is encouraged is when you are searching for terms like "first","second", "third", "fourth" etc. where 1st, 2d, 3d and 4th are, respectively, the abbreviations used. In addition to these terms, you may also abbreviate a suffix such as "junior" to jr. or "senior" to sr.
Misspelled words are the most common reason for a person not being able to find what they are looking for. Make sure you check your sing before trying to search.
