HOLIDAY SAFETY
OK, we had the lowest fatalities … and? reminds me of a squadron I was in and they threw up a slide during commander’s call saying we had hit 365 without a DUI. ... There was a two-second hand clap and they said “now let’s go for two years” and that was it.

Yes ... the CSAF and AF secretary’s memo [about holiday safety] is the reason I didn’t die this Christmas. I hope they can do up another good luck memo for me when I run with the bulls in Spain next year.

On Dec. 26 I was at a party and was getting ready to drive home after about seven drinks. ... Just as I was heading out I thought about that memo … and called a cab.

CSAR MISSION
The joint effort was not the only point of breaking up the [Air Force search-and-rescue mission]. In a study just released, it indicated that not only is the AF CSAR program needed, but should be expanded. Furthermore, the CSAR mission in hostile territory requires extensive training a lot of other aircrews do not receive. It is not just a pickup game like Washington would like to believe it is. It would be akin to removing special operations squadrons and giving their mission to line pilots.

The Air Force needs to firmly secure its flag in the CSAR mission and rally all readily available talent to be proactive and dominate this DoD mission for asymmetric warfare or any other challenges in 21st century.

I say let them have the mission. our manning is diving in the gutter while theirs (Army and Marines) is being built up. So have the extra job and we’ll convert those positions to wherever they are needed.
