Bill to ban pornography on military bases

Has anyone informed Rep. Paul Broun that we pay his salary? Maybe we should get a say in what he is allowed to buy with his paycheck.

Online SERE training required

There will never be a suitable computerized substitute for the real thing. I just recently had to do equipment custodian [comput¬er-based training], and I would have much rather sat in a class¬room with someone from Supply who knows what they’re talking about, and could explain all of the acronyms. ... The best learning environment is a classroom (or the field, such as in SERE).

Between performance reports, decorations, meetings, constant e-mails, actually visiting/talking with troops, etc., in my 13-hour day, I simply don’t have time to go through computer-based train¬ing. Bottom line is there is a limit to how much the Air Force can put on my plate, and I’m at the point where the “food” is now drop¬ping on the floor.

Once the system is fixed, most ancillary training can and should be accomplished online. The goals behind it — reducing the time it takes and the schedule disruption by offering flexibility — is a good one. But I’m not sold on learning to survive in a hostile situation or environment from the comfort of my air-conditioned office.

Fitness and the body mass index

We are the most technologically advanced fighting force the world has ever known, yet we rely on a system from the 19th century to gauge our members’ obesity. There are too many people in the Air Force who are overweight and that needs to be remedied, but we need to do it by utilizing an accurate method which takes into ac¬count a medical point of view and not just a statistical point of view.

Vermont soldiers can’t get home from Iraq

ATA shut its ops down a few weeks ago and AMC is still sitting on their hands. ... Now we have people stranded all over the place and it’s going to end up costing more to get them where they need to go. I love the lowest bidder mind-set. Forget quality and longevity, let’s get the shoddiest airplanes, the most underpaid aircrew, and hire them and just cross our fingers everything goes [well].
