Chief Roy on PT
Did he know he had a chance at this position? He seems like he didn’t know it was coming and didn’t prepare. And while it seems petty, how do you not know your PT score?

Gay officer outed
Was he “found out” or did he tell as a test of the court ruling stating that the DoD now has to prove that him being gay was detrimental to the mission? If it is the latter, I have no sympathy. If he was found out in a witch hunt like the nurse, I have nothing but sympathy for him.

Yes, to have gays in the military isn’t conducive to morale and discipline. Also gays are, especially in higher grades, subject to exploitation by the enemy (spies etc.). But so are alcoholics, drug users, sex freaks, money lovers, psychos etc. To weed the military for them would mean to release thousands, if not more. In this case ... a man who has served honorably for so long should be subject to clemency. After all, the military is a reflection of the U.S. society at large.

GPS risk
The article says that the AF isn’t worried about meeting military needs, but some civilian devices might be impacted. It seems to me that it’s a military system that the government lets others tap into for free; as long as its military purpose is being fulfilled, it really isn’t the government’s problem if people have begun to expect the free service. So, if GPS is really vital to the operations of businesses such as commercial airlines and banks, shouldn’t they share the burden for paying for it?
