Boots

If the Air Force was entering a contest to see which branch could make their boots look like a baby just threw up his Gerber all over them, then the Air Force definitely won. How ’bout we quit trying to copy the other services and go back to good ol’ DCUs while deployed. I just returned from pulling convoy duty in southern Iraq and from quite a distance away outside the wire I could clearly identify exactly where our tower guards and echo guards were standing. The only thing these ABUs blend in with is gravel.

Midterms

I don’t want to get into how long I’ve been in (because most of posts are intentionally humorous/stupid in nature). But seriously I’ve had two feedbacks —EVER. Both were initial. I’ve NEVER had a midterm. I’m currently at my sixth assignment, so I can only assume this is the norm.

Maybe three times in 22 years, and they were always initial and canned w/ zero value. What I find surprising is that a Squadron, Group, Wing, NAF or MAJCOM can stratify their senior NCOs without any feedback or “rack and stack.” We know that it influences promotion boards. Seems like a new master ought to be told where he stands and what he needs to work on.

Medal of Honor review

It is about time someone evaluated/overhaul the broken-down medal process. I really hope that they look at all of the awards that have been given for valor and gallantry to see if these service members can have current medals upgraded. I am sure if a full investigation of medals were given you will find many that would qualify for the Medal of Honor.
