NEW BATTLE UNIFORMS

One day in Baghdad last year I swapped out halfway through the day, changing from an airman battle uniform to a desert combat uniform, and the difference was amazing. And (regarding) the theory they allegedly last longer, did anyone who wore DCUs for an entire deployment ever have a hole worn into your back from carrying your M16 slung on your back? Almost everyone out of group needed to go to Sather Air Base [Iraq] and pick up a new top because a hole was worn into the back because the fabric was so abrasive.

DCUs were great. We got a shipment of ABUs about two-thirds of the way through my deployment to Iraq and didn’t even dream of wearing them until it started getting cold. Then they were fine.
