Tom Day, right, founded Bugles Across America and has performed for six decades and at more than 5,000 funerals. The former Marine has enlisted a force of more than 6,100 volunteers to perform live renditions of "Taps" at memorial services for veterans across the country in place of a recording of the song that would otherwise be used.

Yellow ribbons and bumper stickers are a popular means of expressing support for the military, but they don’t say much about your character. National Military Appreciation Month is an occasion to close that gap; it’s time set aside to acknowledge and thank service members — along with your families — for all that you do, and all that you are.
This May we pay homage to the inspiring attributes that define you as individuals and symbolize your selfless regard for one another. Integrity is your guide, and we salute you for it.
"For those that will fight for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected shall never know." -- L/Cpl Edwin L. Craft, B Co. 3rd AT's, Khe Sahn Combat Base, February 1968
