Unstoppable: On the right track for suspense

Who knew freight trains could be so sexy? Bombastic director Tony Scott turns them into sleek, beautiful behemoths in “Unstoppable,” which packs a punch despite a story so linear that it’s the film equivalent of “See Spot Run.”

Scott uses his trademark insanely frenetic camera work and Denzel Washington’s potent charisma to propel this tense tale of two daredevil railroad men (Washington and Chris Pine) who try to stop an unmanned runaway freight train loaded with toxic chemicals.

The outcome is never in doubt, but it’s one fun, raucous ride.
