Three more exciting first-person shooter titles scheduled for release soon.

Mercenaries 2: World in Flames

Platforms: PS3, PS2, Xbox 360 and PC

Scheduled release: Aug. 31

Go anywhere, drive any vehicle, blow up anything — the sequel. The second “Mercs” takes place in a chaos-riddled Venezuela as rival factions fight to control oil resources. You fight on a giant map where missions are designed to be open, meaning you can assassinate your target with a shot from a sniper rifle or, if you prefer, by leveling his headquarters with a helicopter gunship. Or do both.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Platforms: PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii, Nintendo DS and Xbox 360

Scheduled release: Sept. 16

This is the monster “Star Wars” video game that will appear on virtually every video game platform and contain stuff unique to each, according to publisher LucasArts, including different levels, movie content and, especially, control experiences: Wii players finally will get a game for which their system is ideal. At last, players will be able to stand up and wield a Wii controller as a lightsaber, the way we’ve all been hoping for.

Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway

Platforms: PS3, Xbox 360 and PC

Scheduled release: Sept. 23

A World War II shooter puts you in command of an archetypical, hard-chargin’ Army squad advancing in the doomed Operation Market Garden campaign of 1944. Publisher Ubisoft says the game will add more realism than ever to WWII-style combat, complete with more intelligent German bad guys and highly detailed, destructible environments.
