Sgt. Davis,
I'm very committed to joining the ARNG or USAR but I have one lingering concern. I have a great civilian job. It pays well, I love the people, and I have an ambitious schedule of programs and events I am responsible for managing over the next 12 months. If I did the ARNG, I would be gone for BCT (8-9 weeks) and then resume a regular schedule of State OCS (one weekend/month, 2 week AT). The only real issue is the 9 weeks or so for BCT. I hate to fret over such a small period of time, but I'm concerned my employer will be unsure of how to handle my announcing I'm leaving for 9 weeks. I've only been working here for about 5 months, but we've got long term plans in place that I don't want to sabotage. All that said, I am 100% committed to serving my country one way or another.
Do you have any advice you could give me in terms of approaching my employer, timing (I'm thinking about going in 3 months) and the best way to handle the conversation? I know this may be beyond the normal areas for guidance, but this is the last sticking point for me.
Thanks so much, Sgt. Davis.
Best,
CLP

Best,
CLPIts a pickle for sure,If you have a great civilain job and love it!,then dont join the military. There are many ways that you can support your country and our troops.
How old are you by the way? Also do some research on the UCMJ and make sure you want to give up some of your rights that you have being a civilian.
I am not trying to talk you out of joing up but read some of the the threads about the army and the national guards! IT IS SCARY what they have done to some of their troops!
