Prior Service Enlistment

I recently have been looking into reenlisting in the air force, I previously served 4 years actice duty. During my active duty time in the air force I was a firefighter and would like to reenlist for the same job. I separated on OCT. 13, 2007. My reentry code is 1J. During my time on active duty and after separating I have not gotten into any trouble. Before separating I completed my CCAF degree, completed upgrade traing up to 7-level. I separated as an E-4 but was selected for staff right before separating. I have also been working as a civilian firefighter since my separation. I briefly talked to a recruiter and he told me the firefighter job is not open and to call him back in october to see if it is open for the next fiscal year. Is he right? should I try to talk to a different recruiter? would it be better to wait or should I try to go in the reserves and get in to active duty from there. I would really like to get back in the air force and make a career of it so I appreciate anyone who could help me out with some info.

I am a recruiter and he was telling the truth. Our prior service program is only open to certain jobs and fire fighter is not one of them. There were a few slots available for cross train into PJ and CCT but I think they are gone now. However, at the beginning of the new FY, another prior service program may open up and fire fighter might be on there.

Yeah Im Havng An Interesting Situation Myself. Like You I Left The Military With A 1j On My Dicharge Papers. Only With Me I Was Security Forces And They Do Want Me To Come Back As Security Forces, But Its A Hard Decision. You See I Left The Military Went To A Flight School, Got Twin Engine Certified As A Commercial Pilot. Now I Face The Economic Crisis Going On Right Now. Airlines Arent Hiring! I Want To Go Back To The Air Force But Not To Security Forces. With Those Long Hours And Training On Your Off Days I Wouldnt Be Able To Fly Much. Ive Seen How Other Career Fields Seemed To Have More Time For That Kind Of Thing. Now Im Trying To Take As Many Classes To Finish My Degree Cause I Know If I Do Go Back To Security Forces I Will Have No Time For Awhile To Do Anything. Anyone Got Ideas?
