Hopefully, after I spill my life story to world wide web abroad, the educated Soldiers that are currently serving today may help answer a few questions of mine. I am a prior service 11B that enlisted in 1988 for 3 years, got out as a Corporal, went into the NG and after seeing what a joke that was, went back active. Spent 4 more years active and got out as a DA Corporal (P) in 1996. (I know, means nothing.) My RE code is RE 3 with a seperation code of LBK. Now, here is were my questions/life story begins. I'm 37. I also had an awakening experience by Mr. Johnny Law when he helped me decide to not drink and drive 2 1/2 years ago....so yep, you guessed it, I now am the proud owner of a DWI that I must take to my grave (although it helped me decide that I should not drink alcohol anymore!) I guess I am asking, with a RE 2, DWI and being 37, would I be allowed back in? The DWI is the only type of legal issue I've ever had. How many waivers can one person have (being old, a dumbass and RE 3 ?) Another question of mine, are their any other prior service members that have gone back in? Is it is bad or as good as many of the postings I've read on this forum? I realize the Army has changed since the time I've ETS'd with the no BDU's, no sew on patches...hell, it's not even PLDC anymore and I'm quite sure most Sgt's or SSG's wouldn't know what a 90mm recoiless is or a PRC77. That fits right on it to my next question. It is a different Army today. How would they greet a prior service 37yo that would probably come back as en E whatever (what would my rank be e-2?) I think I could could keep up PT wise, because I PT'd my @ss off the last 9 months with the thought of me joining in the back of my mind. Any opinions here would be great. Thanks.

By the way, I type RE 2 in one part. It is a RE3 code. My fingers got away from me.

Well Prior 101st11b I can tell you that right now the Army is hurting for soldiers so the best advice I think anybody can give you is just go in talk to a recruiter. They raised the age limit to 42 so I don't know what that means for you since you are prior service. I'm not sure what a RE3 code is but short of treason there's not much that will keep you from coming back in.GOOD LUCK!!!!

Be sure to find a recruiter that is willing to do the work to get you back in, I believe you will need two waivers 1 for the DWI and the other for the Narrative discharge that rendered the RE-3, it looks to be a strait ETS for LBK, so that one is sketchy, but I'm pretty sure you will need a moral waiver for the DWI, this is probably the time to try and get back in though. Recruiters don't get any credit for prior service Enlistments.

Good luck

I can give you some advice, If you think the National Guard is bad, stay out of the Army Reserves. Quite a few soldiers on this end is not being paid for expenses for TDY for many months almost a year or so and DFAS is a fucking joke and is only going to get worse. Here is my advice. If you want to stay in the service, stay ACTIVE DUTY, FUCK the Guard and RESERVES if you go to either you will regret it later!

Wrong!

Recruiters get credit for every Soldier they put in the Army. There are two categories of applicants...

1) Quality
2) Other

Mission is based on the two categories and missions vary by station. Missions are signed for every quarter by category (6 grads/8 others, for example) and then broken down into monthly missions for the recruiters in the station to make. If they make the numbers AND by category, they make mission. If (using the example above) they get 5 grads and 20 others, they don't make mission because they didn't get the numbers for each category of applicant.

Does this make sense? Hope so. :D

Thanks for the clarity, of course, I was fed that line of bull about prior service, and It takes someone with some knowledge such as yourself, to really give a good concise answer. I suppose some recruiters just don't want to do their jobs.

Thanks again.

Yeah, 37 years old with prior? You're in man. I know a 39 year old without prior experience that just graduated AIT.

RE3, send me an email address and I can give you some info. I came back on active at 38 and guess where I went? To the 101st from 2004 to 2007. And believe me, it wasnt easy on the body doing all that air assault PT and being a combat MP (well being a former marine, I think I had what it took to hang). Well I got my wings and fought in Iraq. Hurt my leg but went from SSG to Warrant Officer after getting picked up by the board last year.

You do have some strikes but need to sit down with a recruiter to see if you can get waivers. The RA might be strict with approving some waivers compared to the Guard but see what happens. I went from Guard to Active with a conditional release. Its doable but you have to have patience.

Await the next rendevous with destiny.
