got a question...
i just rated a cutting score sep.11th
for corporal
my score meets my mos corporal score
i dont have any mci's done, turning in leadng marines, and terrorism awareness tomarow ''the 24th''
and i read that MARADMIN Number: 370/07 says that effective oct 1st 2008 you need leading marines for corporal
will i get promoted? does that oct 1 rule direclty effect me since id be getting promoted the 1st?
and if so, will my mci be in the system in time for promotion?
thanks in advance!

Congratulations on your score!
Good to see you read the MARADMIN, most will not take the time to do so. Unfortunately, your command should have submitted REC'S/NON REC's already via MOL, and if you had not completed the MCI, you would be NON REC'd for promotion. Of course, depending on your command, and just how much they are on the ball will determine if this occurred. The second part of the question regarding the completion of the MCI and although you have it completed, did you give the exam to your S-3 section for them to run? Electronically? Or mailed off? If it's electronic, it should be in the system easily within 3 days and you will be in there no problem with your promotion. However, what you might run into is your command NON REC'ing you for promotion as you did not have the MCI completed to begin with, where I do believe you might be able to knock out a remedial promotion. If I am wrong here, I am sure someone will post up after me and correct me.
Recommendation provided you don't mind, this is a "perfect" case and point as to why Marines need to knock out your MCI's immediately. I certainly do not know your situation, however, if it's in your realm, I would highly recommend that you have all your newly joined Marines sit around that puter and order their frickin' MCI's. All free points towards promotion, how can you go wrong? If they don't want to knock it out, counsel them accordingly and ensure they bring them into work to knock it out. Sorry...got on a rant.
Good luck and I hope it works out the best for you!

If you had good leadership looking out for you it would have been done way before that. If they are still looking out for you then you will get promoted. You said the MCI is done... so you are good now.

Congrats on your promotion.
A little known fact is that nonrecs are due early in the month, long before scores are released. The system is set up in a way so that any deficiencies with the Marine can be addressed and counciled on and be ready to be promoted the next month. It also protects the subordinate Marine from last minute "spiteful" nonrecs from going through because the senior was not paying attention.
As stated above, it's a leadership problem. It happens a lot of places. Theres a Marine about to be promoted to Sgt in my shop tomorrow without having Fundamentals/Leading Marines completed. Pity.
Try to do your best despite your command letting you down. Be a better example, if even to yourself.

just wanted to add some followup on this;
6 people from my detachment were not promoted due to not having the leading marines mci completed.
we were not non rec'd, but aparently word came from marine headquarters that we were not allowed to get promoted.
we did the mci's that night, word is we will get pinned this afternoon.

Youve been a lance for nine months?

...what kind of MOS has a low enough score that you can pick up in only 9 months, with no MCI's?
....and the Corps wonders why it's getting "baby NCO's". hmm.

These MOS's all had scores in the 1300s
2673, 2676, 2822, 5939, 5979, 6842.
Doesnt really matter though, you have to focus on you. Unless your considering lat moving. I didnt pick up Cpl till after my 3 yr mark. MCI's completed, 286 Pft, and 219 sharpshooter, 4.5/4.5...? I remember asking that same question though and It didnt do anything but make me mad.

i have a question, i am a lcpl right now and i got out in march of 09. and im trying to get back in the marine corps and im close or i should be able to pick up cpl soon if i deploy with a reserve unit, i am wondering if anyone knows what website i can get the red booklets from. the mci booklets so i can study and get promoted. thanks....

ey Testis, your post don't make sense. Are you currently in the reserves? Were you a terminal lance? You mean to tell me, you were in for 4 years, and never did one MCI? Reserve is totally different than active, so I dont know how to answer your questions for a reserve side. But, my logical thinking tells me, maybe you should just ask one of your NCO's for help on the promotion process being the reserves and what may help you get promoted.
Also, its amazing what a quick google search will render you

sorry to confuse you, this is testis wife, tryin to get some questions. he was in 4 years and got out this past march as a lance and prob should have been promoted but got out. and right now he is in irr trying to do this billet to go afgan with the reserve group, and he is asking me to find this website to get this mci booklet so he can try get cpl. do you know anything that if you get promoted as a cpl in thereserve unit that when you enlist in active duty you stay as a cpl? or do you go back to a lcpl? we asked this sgt but she seem confuse and said he will be back as a lcpl. sorry bout confusing ya

again, I don't know much about the reserves, but I wanna say whatever rank he aquires will in the reserves, he will lose when he goes back active.
Also, MCI's arent gonna be the only thing to get him promoted, there's WAY more to promotion than MCI's. And honestly, he shoulda knocked a lot of them out by now.
My question to you, what kind of discharge did he get? Why wasnt he able to re-enlist prior to getting out? Or is he just now choosing to get back in?
This just my 2 cents. But why is trying to deploy with a reserve unit, and also trying to get back active? Its gonna be either/or, because I doubt he can do both at the same time.
What was his MOS while he was in? Judging by your s/n, I'd wanna say 03. If true, why is he so desperate to go back deploying again? Did he really love it that much?

OKay, this is the deal, yes he is a grunt, and yes he could have enlisted, with a good bonous, but it was gonna be his old unit and they screwed him bad, so he decided to not enlist, he enlisted in the army, but last min, decided to not anymore and wanted to get back in the corps, but it was too late i guess cause he couldn't get back into active duty... so talking to all these recruiters none are giving him answers and are telling him go active reserves or what not... and he is in irr, so he wanted to do this billet that is going to afgan because he thinks he should be able to enlist there when the spots for grunts are open. we just moved back to his hometown in TN and i hate it here and he does too, we both can't find a job.
right now, he is upset cause no one is giving him answers. he's not really doing good in the clil life and he said he misses his job. and now he is trying to do what he can to get back in. So thats where he is confuse and im too... Sorry to confuse you before, i just thought no one would answer unless basically talking like testis... thanks for the answers... much is helping for me

Since when were they giving grunts good bonuses? Honestly, I doubt his unit screwed him bad, I'm sure he just made some mistakes and screwed himself, especially getting out, cause look where he's at now.......
Regardless, why did he back out of the Army? Wouldnt he have gone in there as Cpl there? Word on the street is with Marine Corps experience, you can go in as Warrant Officer. ( i kid, i kid) Seriously though, you better hope they didnt hit him with a RE-4 code, that makes me nonre-enlist able due to him backing out at last minutes (depending out how last minute we're talking about)
And I guess he's wanting to take the Afghan job to pretty much get paid like he would be if on active duty?

i really dont know much about the marines and what not, back in hawaii i had friends to talk to about this, here i got no one... all i know about his discharge was that his contract was over. thats all i know... lol... im trying to help him se we both can get out of this town and him back to the life he enjoyed... his unit kinda did in a way, he got out of deploying with his unit in 07 because a surgery, his ssgt was giving him hell when they came back, and actually he was gonna get a good bonus if he went back with his unit, and we both wished he took it... but he was trying to get in with the army in june going to the recruiters to get his papers done, but they was dissing him and telling him to go to another recruiter... his start date was july 28 and he gave up even trying to do anything after the recruiters were giving him crap, he was talking to his recruiter back in hawaii to sigh him up to try and help him, but he really couldn't do much since it was in hawaii and we are in TN. so it sucks... yeah, he is trying to go afgan cause he never went there and he wants to go and pay.... he just hates life... all he does is shot and fish. i hate it here cause i got no where to go...grrrr... i guess he is just gonna have to talk to the prior service recruiter again, but they are all telling him to go active reserves as he doesn't want too

yea, you can say that again, im trying to get everything figured out, and my wife has been on here making me look like i dont know what im doing, but yea, they were posting a 35,000 bonus last year for 0311 re-enlistments, and i SCREWED up and didnt take it then, but now since the corps up sized they supposivly (sp?) filled all the 03 billets, and now im stuck waiting till at least jan.2010 before i can poss. get back in... and by the way, ive got a re1-a code, but im still waiting..................

2 1/2 years ago the bonus when I was overseas was $72,000 for an 0311. Unfortunately, I turned it down and decided to get out.

Lol, yeah, probably, but guess what they're buying? Don't know if you're still active, but if not you should swing down to the barracks on a base sometime. It looks like a freakin' car show. Jacked-up trucks and pimped-out cars, it's ridiculous. The Corps really needs to work on financial management training.

That's exactly what happened with the guys that took the bonus and reenlisted. I agree, it's never a good idea to hand a large sum of money to a young marine; rather than investing, it all goes down the shitter.
