What the Recruiter Never Told You By Rod Powers (http://usmilitary.about.com/mbiopage.htm), About.com

I haven't read the entire webpage but it does have a lot of good information on it. Rod Powers spent 23 years in the military and is now doing these articles.
It's worth a looking over and has some good articles. There are links off the page for everything imaginable.

I would like to tell people that the Army has actually provided me with a good direction and maturity, but the images from Iraq speak much more loudly and strongly than anything I could ever say.
The images coming out of Iraq and constant coverage of our inability to control the country are leaving the greatest impacts on tomorrow's youth.

Honest reporting. Mostly anyone will tell you that they were mislead somewhat by a recruiter. I seen recruiters do amazing stuff to get a recruit in the service. Very stressful job. Sergeants will tell other sergeants to stay away from recruiting and get deployed instead or go work as a drill sergeant. But with today's internet, recruits are better informed and getting awesome bonuses that I never got in a lifetime. I never got my measley 2k bonus back in the 80s and now soldiers are getting offered 20k or more. Amazing. But good read. Thanks

Things the Recruitier never told you:
1# You have no degree and very little to no technical training. Try walking into any place of employment and telling them you want them to train you in something you have little to no experience in, that you want 30 days paid vacation a year, that you want full dental and health coverage, that you want 100% of your college education paid for by them, that you want salary bay guarenteed on the 1st and 15 never to decrease....only to increase, tell them you want guarenteed advancement in your job or advancement based on merit and not the good ole boy system, tell them that you want free gym membership as part of your job, tell them that you want business trips that you make great money and/or have a great time on, and tell them that all you have is a high school diploma or a little college that you dropped out of. You need the military...the military does not need you. If you dont join somebody else that wants to take advantage of everything we have to offer will!
