I enlisted in the Army Reserve and did 2 years before going Active Duty. I am a specialist and am currently working to get my E5. I recently looked at my ERB and it does not credit my prior service time. This will mean that I will have 5 years time in before I am eligible for my E5 rather than 36 months. My LES still states that my enlistment date is back in 2006 as is the case. I have a couple buddies who did this also and they are not having time taken away from them and have already been able to obtain their E5. These guys were both reserve and N.G. so I know that I should be able to keep my time. Does anyone know what regulation I need to cite or can you point me in the right direction. I got to the board next month and I don't want to sit around waiting on time for another 2 years. Thanks for the help.

It sounds like you need to do some research or talk to your squad leader. Nobody has to wait 5 years to be promoted to E-5. Not sure where you're getting that number. You only need 16 months TIS to board in the secondary zone.

Did your new AD unit do a DA 1506 Statement of Service on you when you came in? That should be done at the S-1, PAC, PSB. They will do a calculation on how much active time you should have. You are required to provide supporting documentation, also. I had to do the same thing when I came on Active Duty.

If you think your TIS is in error, talk to your CoC about having a 1506 done. But, the bottom line is you won't get back a full 5 years.

Also, if they are letting you go to the board next month, then you won't have to wait around two years to get promoted (in fact you would lose your promotable status well before that). You should be elligible for promotion the month following the board month (I think it's only 30 days for points to be effective, versus 60 now, I could be wrong). It sounds like you are boarding the secondary zone, which means you are eligible for promotion at the same time as those in the primary zone, it just usually takes more points to get promoted and there have to be more authorizations for that MOS and grade.

I highly suggest you check out this website https://www.hrc.army.mil/site/Active/select/Enlisted.htm#cpi. It's the HRC page for enlisted promotions. All potential NCOs should know this information by heart.
