With cost of living being over inflated, would it be safe to say that in todays society $297.00 for BAS is in serious need of an increase. Two years ago, two weeks worth of groceries would cost me between $100-$150 dollars. With everything doubling up in prices I find myself penny pinching for gas, food, and maintaining a roof over my head. As a mother of two and married to a veteran, the current rate for food subsistance is not enough. In stating this, the rates for members with or without dependents should vary as well. What do you think!!!000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000

Has been discussed ad nauseum in multiple threads... BAS is for you only; it is also a BASIC allowance for substinance, not a free meal ticket.

Try it on $33.00 per month as we had to do back in the 50's & 60's.

It was between 30-40 cents a gallon, unless you could find a good gas war, I remember one time in CA it got down to 9 cents, in the late 50's:::::)

Its all about budgeting. To this day, people who serve were known that they couldnt get rich from doing this even though many have found financial independence through savings. The government does its best to take care of its military members.

Im here in West Point NY. Everywhere in NY they get COLA, but we dont get it, because the average rank here is 0-4. We were getting it, but the officers started to complain that everyone was not getting it. It is very expensive here at West Point. The soldiers get treated really bad here. This is the worst duty station, even it is easy. Im coming from Ft. Hood, and there are soldiers who this is the first duty station. been here for 6 years. It is worst than Korea with soldiers hiding out here.

New York has the best and highest BAH in the country. What are you talking about COLA? What is your rank? Your BAH is over 2 gran? If you cant survive with that in NY, then perhaps there might be some money management issues. Even the housing on that post is awesome.

My highest BAH I pulled was 1100 and overseas we average 900 bucks a month in COLA without BAH.
