what is your gender?
how many PFT pull ups can you do?
how long can you sustain the flexed arm hang, PFT standards?
me:
Gender: Male
Pull ups: full 20
Flexed arm hang: full 70
i only work on maxing out pull ups and upper body strength in general, i put zero effort into the flexed arm hang. i am curious, however, about others.
why i am asking:
the common claim is that men are inherently better at pull ups while women are inherently better at the flexed arm hang. why not include both on the pft and give each a chance to take advantage of their born-in advantages?
for both genders...
crunches = 100 points max
run = 100 points max
pull ups = 50 points max
flexed arm hang = 50 points max
with this done, male nonrates can't bitch that women have an advantage on the cutting score (as stated by SgtMaj of MC and quoted in the MC Times a while back). same with women.
i have no idea if that is viable. i especially want women answer this.... if the vast majority of women get 70 seconds, but can only do 5 pull ups then this clearly would not be an ideal solution.
however, if 70 second women usually get 10 pull ups, and 20 pull up men usually get 35 seconds flexed arm, then it would be 100% fair. both get 100% in one and 50% in the other.
my current belief is that women AND men that actually work at it will inherently overcome the gender-inherent disadvantage and be able to do about equally well in both. a woman that PTs on her own and works at it will do just as well on pull ups as a man that PTs on his own and works at it will do on the flexed arm hang.
prove me wrong, or prove me right. go! :)
