Hello Marines,

To save time there's no back story really needed just the straight questions:
1. Can someone with Chronic Insomnia join the Marines?
2. Can someone with Sleep Apnea join the Marines?
3. Can someone with Narcolepsy join the Marines?

Can you imagine a Marine on guard duty with narcolepsy? How about a victim of sleep apnea in a trench, looking for some place to plug in his CPAP machine? As for chronic insomnia -- I hear that was pretty common on Guadalcanal.

Based on the "Standards of Medical Fitness" (Army), you are not allowed to ENLIST / JOIN if diagnosed with a sleep disorder....(AR 40-501)...

Chapter 2-30(l)..."Current sleep disturbances (780.5), including, but not limited to sleep apneas, is disqualifying."

http://www.army.mil/usapa/epubs/pdf/r40_501.pdf

Again, this is Army standards....not sure about Marines.

All services have pretty much the same medical standard due to the fact that all branches with the exception of the Navy send all of their applicants to MEPS. MEPS makes the final call (almost final anyway) on all medical issues.
