To all,
Am a recent college graduate and would like to serve my country. I feel strongly that NAVY OCS may be the most effective way for me to do so while fullfilling personal goals. Have not spoken with recruiter yet though plan to shortly and am looking foran alternative view on OCS. Any information concerning: admissions (college GPA, military exam scores, etc), physical fitness standards, health standards, and careers once complete would be much appreciated. Some info about myself which may help in answers - graduated college Cum Laude, am in good physical condidtion, extremely dedicated to task and focus, love my country and want to serve, have eyesight problems. Thank you all for any info and a special thanks to those who have served.

I am not an OCS officer but have served with many. It sounds as though you would meet the prereqs, and poor eyesight will not disqualify you, only prevent you from selecting some options i.e. pilot, submariner...

The bottom line is that regardless of commissioning source, an Ensign is an Ensign when you get to your first ship, you will know little about your job. Take that time to learn what you can and do your best.

Best of luck to both of you!

You need to speak to an Officer Recruiter, there aren't alot in any given state. Your choices would depend upon you degree. Right now to be competitive, you need over a 3.0 GPA and experience in the related field is definately a plus. The most general area to get into is SWO (Surface warfare officer). You can join with any degree for that, but it is quickly filling up already this year. There is an officer test and your OAR score is important. You want something in the 50s for that to be competitive. For health standards, MEPs will pick you apart but a big thing is being able to run and not having knee injuries. Eyesite should only play a role in NFO (Naval Flight Officer, like Goose in topgun) and Pilot.

I have a question. I'm still doing all necessary work to apply for OCS. Here my qual's so far:

Graduated Liberty University Multi-Disciplinary Studies: 3.2 GPA
Extensive leadership experience, leading the youth group at my church.
Currently at hour 17 in Private Pilot Lessons and am planning to get my Private Pilot License in no more than two months from now.
Currently studying for the ASTB.
LOR's will be from both an Air Force retired pilot and recruiter.

Can anyone give me tips for the ASTB. Especially to know what is best to study in the nautical and mechanical comprehension areas?
Also, with my GPA, hopefully decent ASTB scores, and Private Pilot License; what are my chances of getting selected?

Any light you can shed would be appreciated.
