So you're asking if the National Guard has LOWER standards than Active Duty? Geez, I hope they don't!

No I am not asking if the Guard has lower standards! I am asking as a 20 year service member put out of AD can somehow join the guard. But thanks anyway for the sarcasm.

What was your med problem?

Bi-lat shoulder impingement, complete rupture of left achilles, 3 degen. discs. I have since been rated by the VA at 50% but would like to get my guard retirement and continue to serve in some way.

Yes the Guard has different standards in many areas. Medical is not one of them. All DoD recruiters (except Navy) send ALL applicants to MEPS. MEPS reviews the documents and makes the determination whether or not you are even qualified to take a physical. IF they say you can take a physical, they also determine your eligibility. Some things can be waived, some can't. It is MEPS' call and if you were already DQ'd from service, chances aren't great that MEPS will say you are qual.

I believe however if you Palace Front, that is don't take a break in service, you don't have to go through the MEPS screening process again.
