I have read the MARADMINs and what not. I was wondering if anyone could give me any adive on what Enlisted to Officer program I should apply for. I will be getting my Associates degree in May and moving on towards my BA. I was debating between MECEP or seeing if my commanding officer would put me in for MCP. Which is better for my circumstance? Would a Associates degree help me that much on a MECEP board? Thanks for the help.

I am currently in the MECEP program. Like you I had my Associates before applying for the program. It is my opinion that this will help you. This will cut in half the amount of time the Corps has to pay for you to be in school. However, this is only one aspect. Make sure your PFT score is good, you have good letters of recommendation, and so on. As far as the different programs, I can only give my personal experience for MECEP. Make sure you contact the MOI at the school you are interested in as there is a HUGE difference in what each college expects from their Marines. Some are practically on their own and some are treated much like Midshipmen.

Hope this helps...

I am in the process of putting a package together. Do you mind me asking what your PFT score and Education scores were? I am currently in the medical portion of it. That is quite the pain. Thanks for the help.

To make your life a little easier, go to www.marines.usmc.mil, go to G-3, the Officer Programs. Click on the program your looking for then read all the requirements and comments. It specifically outlines PFT's being 261+ on average, etc.

I myself am also putting a package together this year for MECEP and notice in all MARADMINS with enlisted to officer or warrant officer that the SAT, ACT, AFQT are all different and some wrong. For example the W/O Gunner program asks for SAT of verbal and math, to my knowledge there is no verbal section on the SAT when the scores are done. I took the SAT a year back and it hasn’t changed too much since than.

Also how much do test scores play into the acceptance....any ideas out there?

I have been told by many Marines and Mustangs that the tests score play a huge role into whether you get accepted or not.

It is a flawed system, test scores that is. Especially since the MARADMINS are incorrect. THERE IS NO VERBAL SECTION TO THE SAT!!! If you take the SAT these days it has changed. And there is not MCTFS section for SAT last time I checked, maybe it has changed….

I think test scores are not a good way at all to accept or deny Marines a chance to become an officer. I say go with FITREPs, time in service, time in grade, letter or recommendations, deployments. A 500 word essay, really, I can write 500 words just naming where I have been in the Marine Corps, talk about waves tops. My name is_ I went _ and _ and _ and _ and _, I deployed to _ and _ and _ and _. I am a motivated Sgt that wants to lead Marines, 500 words done! I think they could do a little more thorough process than have half the MECEP package with medical information.

I also will be submitting a MECEP package, thanks for the link Krash. Hopefully we'll all be writing a thread down the road about how great the program was and passing the info on to our Marines. Good luck everybody

American,

relax.

first of all, the sat is now composed of writing, math and critical reading. the regs were written back when there was just a math and verbal section. As for test scores not being relevant, you better come around on your thinking or you will never make it through school. First of all, mecep is not ocs where people already have their degrees. As such, you are also applying to an university in addition to applying to the mecep program. Both areas have different selection criteria. Test scores are an indicator of your level of education and your capability of finishing the course of study at a major university. The Marine Corps is going to be spending a sizeable amount of money on their candidates to attend an university. They are not going to select a candidate based solely on their military performance to have them then flunk out of school. When I was a cadet, we had a couple of meceps in my cadet company. Both were extremely sharp in both their military demeaner, but also in their academic performance. However, as a mecep, your number one function in college is to pass school. You do very little in the way of military training. So, if you can't pass the grade, you're not going to get the commission. Just something for you to consider.

I would apply for all the programs that you are eligible. My background is that I was an e-4 in the Army before I was commissioned. I applied to every program available and to all three rotcs. Air Force and Army came back, but Army would only give me a three year scholarship versus AF's four year, so I went AF. My point is that don't limit yourself with just one program. Give yourself as many different avenues to obtain a commission. That way, you can pick and choose. Also, as an officer, consider the reputation of the school you will be attending because the alumni that you graduate with will be of assitance to you later in life, both in and out of the military. Best of luck.

First, thanks for the valuable information you have provided. I have reviewed some of your previous post on commissioning programs. I would really like your advise. I desparately want to return to the Air Force as a commissioned officer. I am 32 years old and served in the Air Force enlisted for 5 yrs 6 mos. (4 active AF, 1.6 Active ANG/Title 10) Highest rank E-5. My record is stellar and I am eligible for re-entry.

I am currently working in South Korea (civilian teacher) and will be returning to the States in November. I would like to apply for all commissioning programs. Please provide any information you have on programs and requirements.

Additionally, I already have a B.S. and some graduate work. Ideally I would like Reg. Air Force, but open to Air National Guard worst case.

For any questions regarding commissioning programs: go to your respected 'Times' website. Click on the 'Careers&Education" link located at the top. Once that page has loaded click on the link 'Military Careers' located on the left of the page. Scroll 1/4 of the way down and you will see links for commissioning programs for all branches of military service. Hope this helped and good luck.

Does anyone know if the Marine does the paperwork for MCP or the officer "recommending" him? I have heard two different stories. I have heard that Marines are the ones doing the paperwork. Which isn't a problem I just wanted more incite. If someone here by chance did MCP.

Would you trust your career to anyone else? You do the paperwork, then get every officer you can to review and critique it.
