SAN DIEGO — A Coast Guard cutter has pulled nearly 2½ tons of marijuana from the ocean south of San Diego.
A Coast Guard spokesman said Wednesday the 5,000-pound stash consisting of more than 100 bales was the result of four days of dragging the ocean after a smuggling boat dumped its load in international waters while being chased by a Coast Guard boat about 160 miles south of San Diego last week.
The Mexican navy intercepted the boat Feb. 10, and took several people into custody.
