I am so confused with everything that is posted and what the recruiters are telling me. I am a single female, no children, not paying child support. I'm older than the normal recruit but this is something I want and need to do. I am considering joining the Army Reserves. I have an apartment and pets and don't want to give up my entire life that I have gotten rather attached to over the past 15 years to serve, but I can't afford to keep my apartment, pets or belongings for the 9 months that I will be in Basic and AIT on an E3 basic pay. I had one recruiter tell me that if I brought a copy of my lease with me that I would be granted BAH during Basic and AIT. I had another tell me that no recruits get BAH and that the BAH w/o dependents was only for soldiers that has children that were not living with them and that that was the difference between with and without dependents BAH. I've read the law that went into effect for FY08 and that it states Section 602 -
Allows reserve members without dependents to receive basic allowance for housing when attending accession training while maintaining a primary residence. Does this mean I qualify for the BAH for my home area while I go to Basic and AIT. I am so confused over this. Can someone please help clarify this for me. This is pretty much the decision factor on whether I join or not.

Thanks

My husband is a reservist at Basic right now and he filled out a BAH for housing while he is gone for training He has not gotten his first pay LES yet so I dont' know how much he will get but in our situation it was because he has 2 daughters and a wife and own his home so I don't know if that changes with not having dependents. I will let you know what happens when he gets his first pay.

Take care!
