I am currently out of job and now got two offers. One is a contracting opportunity with Dept of Commerce (DOC) and another is a contracting opportunity with Dept of Homeland Security (DHS). Both of the offers are contingent on getting clearances. DOC offer needs a very minimal level of clearance and it is a 3 to 6 months contract. DHS offer needs a secret clearance. For both the clearances, I will be fingerprinted and have to enter info on e-quip site. Since I am not sure how long a secret clearance take or whether I would be getting it, I wanted apply for both the clearances.
My question is “Is there any chance that both the security officers of the sponsoring agencies to know that I have applied two clearances. If so, will that affect my job offers or clearance process?”

While I appreciate that Mel considers herself to be an expert on all matters, the truth is a little different. If you are entering your data into e-QIP (Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing) then your investigation is being conducted by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). They will not conduct two concurrent NACLCs National Agency Check with Local Agency and Credit Check) which is the investigation conducted for Secret security clearances. The bottom line is that you are not applying for a clearance but having a security investigation conducted. The agency you work for will grant (or deny) your security clearance via their Central Clearance Facility (CAF). You can be granted by clearances by more than one agency through reciprocity agreements in place throughout the Executive Branch.

Fred why is it that when I answer a question you have to be so rude to me? The simplicity of it is they are not goign to disclose that he is applying for another job. I simply asked and got an answer for the guy. Please refrain from responding to me if you can't be civil

I will make a deal with you.........when I give mental health advice (in a series tone) then you can be rude to me. Actually you can be rude to me in any case. I promise not to report you to the chain of command.
Your advice was bogus. One of the investigation requests will be denied and the agency will be told there is already an investigation in progress....................
Next.

You are correct. In fact, if one agency submits it and the second one also submits it electronically, they will be notified that there is a clearance in progress and it will be rejected. My advise would be to submit the Secret first. That way it isn't rejected (if that is the higher one). If they have JPAS access, they can find out who submitted the other clearance and when. Just be honest.

Bottom line Saas the people that are hiring in human resouses just call to check on security clearance they will be told one is already in process. They will make a note to check back for results. It is no big deal no one will have a discussion about the different places you apply or want to work - I have gone through these several times when we change areas it is never an issue people expect you are looking for a job thats why your there so don't worry.

No they will not be told that........
AGAIN..............
The second investigation will be denied and the agency requesting the investigation will be notified of this denial. They will be told the reason is that there is already an investigation already in progress. The math here is easy............................
Now to actually answer the OP's questions without injecting any irrelevant personal history…..
My question is “Is there any chance that both the security officers of the sponsoring agencies to know that I have applied two clearances. If so, will that affect my job offers or clearance process?”
Yes, at least one of them will know and no it should affect the clearance process. The job offer issue no one can answer with certainty.

This is why i always tell those getting out to ensure they already have their clearances done before it is time to go. Secrets are good for 10 yrs, and TS are ok for 5.
