I think that I can speek for alot of troops on this one. First it was the patrol cap, ok fine. Then it was the BDU's, whatever .I will wear this uniform that has a life expectancy of 6 months. BUT NOW THEY WANT OUR TABASCO!!!!!!!!! Please stop that madness. The one little thing that gives our beloved(sarcasm) M.R.E. any kind of flavor is now in jeapordy. Oh but look at the bright side we will save the taxpayers $700,000. Well yippy skippy, To me with all the TRILLIONS in this bail out money that we are tossing around for corpoations that partied it all up all these years why not right? Whats next? " Well soldiers with the higher cost of gun powder and lead, uh.... well...... we....... can save taxpayers even more money of we cut down on ammunition and use sling shots, oh and by the way there will be no more field artillary we will use catapolts. Im just a bottom feeder in the army but how about we stop spending all this money on plasma flat screens in TOC's oh that usually end up in some high ranking persons house after a deployment, oh come on you know this happens. Or oh...humm. here is a better idea stop the '' USE IT OR LOSE IT" idea. Now im sure we have ALL heard this one," Well SSG Snuffy, we have $90,000 left in our budget and the end of the FY is coming, if we dont spend it we wont get it next year. Order some nice leather chairs''. We shoot ourselves in the foot all the time. I hope someone gets a nice bullet on that OER for this great idea. $700,000 thats a drop in the bucket I have seen so much money waisted on senseless stuff it makes me sick to my stomach, now i just have to go carry a bottle around with me:)

Haha, don't worry lads, we girls can always send you some :) Actually, in the spirit of St Patricks day I just sent my soldier some green tabasco sauce...

You make an excellent point though about the total waste of money... (non-tabasco related, of course ;))

Well at least I have some support on this one. Im not one to complain I have done my fair share of suck it up and drive on, but this is unacceptable. We have to fight to get this forum in the Army times. Like anything else if we stick together we might be able to get this overturned. Tell every one that you know about this thread, you all owe it to yourselves and others, VIVA LA TOBASCO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (or Franks red hot)

I completly understand that, but it is the point that there is alot more wasteful spending out there that we all see on a day to day basis that can save taxpayers more money than the little drop in the bucket to get rid of this. If you want to take things from an MRE, take the toiltet paper that nobody uses or the gum that nobody chews.

Or get rid of all of it. Go buy a little bottle to carry around with you.

Yes...that pseudo toilet paper is quite worthless in the wiping aspect. *deletes visuals*

But something tells me those things don't cost as much. Isn't Tabasco a brand name?

it sure is, like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, etc. the difference is that the customers for those products will not be taking a shower with a baby wipe for weeks on end.

i can name a few things they can do away with in the MRE packets and boxes. First of all I can understand someone who doesn't eat meat products, but why are there ALWAYS at least 4 vegetarian MRE's in a case that NO ONE WANTS? Another note, some DO NO LIKE the cheese spread at all, what the heck happened to the peanut butter? Todays MRE's are being on my list as SUCK AZZ CRAP! Maybe some HOT SHOT general and his staff ought to pound some down and see if they would like to consume it over and over for days on end. The toilet paper is USELESS like the paper the Army using in hte latrines. Go wipe your AZZ with it and your fingers punches through the paper! I got a GOOD WAY TO SAVE SOME MONEY for the military, get RID OF CATERED FOOD that these generals are having catered to them, and get rid of HIGHLY OVERPAID PAID OFFICERS and HIGH NCO's WHO DON'T, NOR CAN DO THEIR JOBS sucking up air space waiting on their retirement doing nothing but screwing soldiers on getting them paid, etc! I will post details of this in Army Pay issues thread if anyone wants to read up on it.!

Also, I would like to mention the food at DFAC's across the nation at different posts. Food at the mess halls are getting worse by the day. I would ALSO, like to see some HOT SHOT general and his staff to come unanounced to ANY DFAC and see what the rest of us are subject to eating. I just got back from Fort Dix, NJ. Everyday there was baked fish served 2 times aday that wasn't tasty at all and after each day went by you noticed the fish got drier and drier from being leftovers, salsbury steak, (hamburger pattie with gravy topped on it) the next day fried steak, (also hamburger pattie with a bread crust), anything served as steak is ACTUALLY A BEEF PATTIE topped with their own little word for what they call it, then one day we had spaggetti, (after 4 weeks of baked fish and hamburger served many different ways), the meatballs tasted like they were dug out of a well used port a can. This pre-processed food is a joke! I don't buy it at the stores, much less subject myself to eat the crap and why should we soldiers have to eat something that we know the general wouldn't eat himself?. Thank god for all the salad that was half azz fresh, and the cakes and pies were an excellent choice and wasn't F&%ked up and about the only thing worth eating. They did have fresh fruit that was almost fresh. Then out of 5 weeks at Fort Dix, we finally had chicken that was so dammed dry you had to drink a gallon of water with every bite to get it washed down your thoat. bread that was never opened was stale as they came, you could throw it at a wondow and break the glass!

Now Fort Polk on the other hand, I would ALSO like to see some HOT SHOT general and his staff eat at the DFAC's there. The food there was almost as bad, but they would never change the salad unless it was almost all the way brown and rotting. Their fruit was on it's begining of rotting stage. Rumsfeild F*&KED UP the ARMY by REMOVING ARMY COOKS and GOING CONTRACT FOOD COMPANIES! I have been to 3 differnet posts. Out of the 3 Fort Sam Houston has HALF AZZ food worth eating!

Amen to that platoon daddy, now you know how I feel when I referred to my self as a bottom feeder. Im my situation Im a SSG and also the lowest ranking guy around. From what it sounds like is all your beef patties were probably left over from the officer mess hall thats why it was so dry.LOL. Eh what do you do. Although I did have a spicy penne pasta MRE the other day (vegetarian) and it wasnt to bad BUT ITS BECAUSE I PUT FREAKIN TOBASCO ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is the only stuff that makes those edible and they want to take it away. As for the peanut butter I have decided to stay away from that.

I wasn't going to quote your entire original post. But from what you're describing, it would be statistically healthier eating at a fast food restaurant than any given DFAC.

In fact, the last time I set foot in a DFAC for anything other than breakfast was well over 3 years ago. Even if I still possessed a meal card, I would rather spend money or cook for myself than eat food from military cooks who don't take pride in their craft.

On a side note, yes Tabasco is a brand. It is produced at Avery Island LA. They make those tiny bottles for the Meals Rejected by Ethiopians and it is a point of pride for them (it is in the movie you watch during the tour). They even tell you how long they have been in the Meals Regurgitated by Everyone. The name of LA's capital comes from the stick that they use to tell if the tabasco pepper is ripe (Baton Rouge=Red Stick).

And they wonder why more and more Soldiers are failing to make tape.

This epidemic of potential obesity and heart disease could be easily rectified if..

a) Military posts endorsed Subway more often than Burger King
b) DFACs actually gave a crap about what they were serving to troops and made the menu more delectable and relevant to calorie intake
c) Married Soldiers ate out less and single Soldiers invested in a hot plate

..but that's just me, I guess.

Keep the Tabasco sauce, and upgrade the toilet paper with the savings from the USAF's hammers and toilet seat. All kidding aside -- first it was the cigarettes in the C-Rations now it is the Tabasco sauce. When will it stop -- never.
