Can i join the USAF with a GED? I called the recruiting station and they said that they would call me back. I know that with a GED i have to score 50 or higher on a ASVAB to join the reserves but honestly I'd rather be active. Thanks for your time.. I'll go post an intro soon! haha

From AirForce.com

There are many additional criteria for enlisting with a GED as opposed to enlisting with a traditional High School diploma.

These are:

You must obtain a 65 qualifying score on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB).

Under normal circumstances, 1% of our enlisted force accessions are GED holders during a one-year period.

If you are a GED holder, you can gain the same eligibility as a high school graduate by obtaining 15 or more semester hours of qualifying college credit.

GED applicants must wait on slots to become available, and this can sometimes mean waiting periods of up to one year.

You're best off talking to a recruiter. But with those added criteria it doesn't look promising. The Air Force has no problems meeting its recruitment goals so can afford to be choosy.

Did I hear my name? If you want the AF, be persistant. You are not a priority. If they give you a shot, take it and do EVERYTHING they ask you to do WHEN they ask you to do it. To get your foot in the door, I would reccomend taking the ASVAB for the Army. Once you get your score, IF it is high enough, then contact the AF Recruiter. If you have a quaifying score, you might be worth their time. If not, and you still want AF, keep bugging them. It is true that the squeeky wheel gets the grease and sometimes applicants who weren't my priority become my priority just to get them to shut up-not really fair but it's true.

Haha, thanks man i appreciate the advise, actually i think i'm getting ready to take the asvab test next weds for the Army, depending on the job i get offered i'll probably join. My average score on the pratice tests are in the low 50s to low mid 60s i suck at tests so i doubt i'll score 65 on for the actual test lol.

Now for the real answer. Have an Air Force Recruiter ask you all the eligibility questions. Law violations, medical, ht/wt, ect. If you are perfectly qualified other than a GED and you score a 65 or higher on the asvab you are eligible for the 1% rule. That means for every 100 people a recruiting squadron puts they can put 1 ged. Right now our squadron has 4 people on the list so you would have to wait 4 months to book your job then another 2-3 month for your job to leave.

Or you could enroll in 15 semester hours at your local comm. college. Ask a recruiter is the college is accepted by the Air Force first. You can even get a student loan to enroll in the classes and then our student loan repayment program can pay it off.

+10 pts.

Yep...I talked with a recruiter at my favorite pub a couple months ago...about my nephew. No, not a pub recruiter...just an AF recruiter that happens to hang at the same pub I do.

He said that my nehpew needed to get 15 sem hours college credit...then he'd be good.
